Starting at St Ives Library on Tuesday 3rd October 2017 - from 7.00 pm to 9.00 pm - a new 8 week course. Running every Tuesday evening until 28th November.

Papercraft and Printing.
With St Ives Textile Artist Jo McIntosh.
In association with Workers Educational Association (WEA) Cornwall and St Ives Library Education Hub.

Learn how to make your own textured paper. Make paper from silk fibres. Create your own book. Make and use a simple printing block. Use found objects to print with. Design, make and use a stencil.

Get creative, learn something new, have fun!

Cost is £62.00 for the full 8 week course.
Free places are available for those on qualifying benefits..

If you want to attend - you MUST book a place in advance  - if there are not enough people interested it will not run. You cannot just turn up on the first evening.

The Nature Reserve is a 40 acre public open space around Knill's Monument, overlooking St Ives.

Entrance is through the main gate ¾ of the way up Steeple Lane.

Five films for September at St Ives Arts Club -
with a theme of "Art and Artists".

Eames - The Architect and The Painter.
The husband-and-wife team of Charles and Ray Eames were America's most influential and important industrial designers. Admired for their creations and fascinating as individuals, they have risen to iconic status in American culture.
Sunday 10th September.

An Angel At My Table.
A dramatisation of the autobiographies of New Zealand author Janet Frame. The film follows Frame from when she grows up in a poor family, through her years in a mental institution, and into her writing years after her escape.
Wednesday 13th September.

Annie Leibovitz - Life Through A Lens.
Traces the artistic self-realization of Annie Leibovitz, from childhood through the death of her beloved friend, Susan Sontag, and includes snippets of Leibovitz's last visual memories of Sontag.
Sunday 17th September.

Basquiat.
Basquiat tells the story of the meteoric rise of youthful artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. Starting out as a street artist, living in Thompkins Square Park in a cardboard box, Jean-Michel is "discovered" by Andy Warhol's art world and becomes a star.

Ingrid Bergman - In Her Own Words.
A captivating look behind the scenes of the remarkable life of a young Swedish girl who became one of the most celebrated actresses of American and World cinema.

Come lovers of Wallis, let us be reasonable; patient with those who say -
“Any child could have done it……” (Sven Berlin).

Now, it is YOUR turn to show how it’s done!

You can have YOUR chance to create a picture in the style of Wallis!

There will be a variety of materials to work with: old card, tins, bottles, jars or, bring something of your own!

Paint is kindly being provided by Colin Nicholls (Colenso), plus some crayons, old colouring pencils and anything else we can scrounge – or you can bring.

The session is being led by Jo Mcintosh and promises to be a lot of fun!!!
And, who knows…tea and biscuits!!!

The event is free with, as ever, donations welcomed for FOSIL
(Friends Of St Ives Library).

The Boathouse is one of the most interesting venues in St Ives,

Tucked away in a former pilchard cellar behind St Ives Harbour, a tiny theatre that seats only around thirty people, so you are right up close to stage.

They are staging three theatre productions in September.

Drenched – Third Man Theatre
A one man comedy show inspired by the Cornish landscape, people, folklore and the pasties! Drenched imaginatively combines storytelling, stand-up and poetry.
Saturday 9th, Sunday 10th and Monday 11th September 2017.
Performances at 5.00 pm and 8.00 pm.
Tickets: £10.00

Murder Mystery Farce - by Jason Calder
The Hope Springs Restaurant holds a murder Mystery Night. Disaster strikes when the Chef doesn’t turn up and guests start disappearing. Who will survive to solve the mystery in this murderous comedy?
Wednesday 13th, Thursday 14th and Friday 15th September 2017.
Wednesday 20th, Thursday 21st and Friday 22nd September 2017.
Performances start at 7.30 pm.

Something Fishy This Way Comes - Boathouse Theatre Company
When a TV show comes to St Ives, Presenter Clive Andrews interviews eccentric locals to try to get a flavour of the area. Be prepared to hear stories that should be taken with a large dose of salts.

St Ives Harbour Raft Race is a fun event - with teams representing various local businesses and community groups.

Also - great fun to watch - from the The Wharf, Smeaton's Pier  or Harbour Beach.

This year (2017) it takes place on Friday 25th August -
starting at 7.00 pm.

For teams wanting to enter - forms are available from Cafe Art on Royal Square. Cost is £20.00 per team - all proceeds go to St Ives Pilot Gig Club.

Sweet 'N Sour - comedy improvisation group.

St Ives September Festival 2017 - Textiles Exhibition


Due to unforeseen circumstances, St Ives Textiles have had to cancel their September exhibition at Porthmeor Studios. They are sorry for any disappointment, but will keep you up to date with further news as and when they can.



St Ives Textiles is a group of 8 textile artists who meet regularly at Porthmeor Studios.

They experiment with themes, media, materials and techniques to produce original textile art.

During St Ives September Festival 2017 they will be exhibiting their work.

Kernow Inspirations
An exhibition of textile art with a Cornish theme.

Saturday 9th to Saturday 16th September 2017.
10.00 am to 5.00 pm daily.

Porthmeor Studios, Back Road West, St Ives.
Free entry - one and all welcome.

Come along to meet the artists and to view some beautiful original textile art inspired by the Cornish landscape.

Plans are moving forward to establish an "Education Hub"
at St Ives Library.

An initial  programme of courses will be running from Autumn 2017.

Into Work — CVs, interviews and job applications.
Thursdays 9.30 am — 2.30 pm - 4 weeks starting on 28th September.

History of Art - with Jack Friskney-Adams.
Mondays 7.00 — 9.00 pm - 10 weeks starting on 2nd October.

Papercraft and Printing — make and decorate your own book.
With St Ives textile artist Jo McIntosh.
Tuesdays 7.00 —9.00 pm - 8 weeks starting on 3rd October.

Needle Felting - Wednesday 13th September
Learn how to create wonderful pictures and three dimensional objects using wool and simple needle felting techniques.

Fabric Flower Brooches - Friday 22nd September
Create flower brooches using fabric and simple hand stitching.

The cost for each is £16.00 including all materials.

St Ives Textile Artist Jo McIntosh is running a free afternoon creative crafts workshop at St Ives Library:

Wednesday 26th July - 2.00 to 4.00 pm.

Papercraft and Printing.
Learn how to create textured and coloured paper using Bondaweb, cling film and salt.

Get creative, learn something new,have fun!

This is FREE to all - but you MUST book a place in advance  - if there are not enough people interested it will not run. You cannot just turn up on the day.

Secret Gardens Of St Ives


Secret Gardens Of St Ives - ten private gardens, mostly in tucked away parts of St Ives, will be open for the public to explore and enjoy.

Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th June 2017 - 12.00 to 5.00 pm.

These are not normally open to the public - so this is a rare opportunity to explore Hidden St Ives !

The gardens range from pocket-sized to more substantial plots.

They may be hidden down narrow lanes or command stunning views over the coast.

Most of the gardens are within walking distance of each other and the town centre.

Tickets are £6.00 - under 16s free.
One ticket is valid for both days.
All proceeds go to local good causes -
St Ives Community Fund and St Ives Skatepark.

Plans are moving forward to establish an "Education Hub" in St Ives - with a range of courses.

There will be two "taster" events at St Ives Library -
on Friday 12th and Saturday 13th May.
More details of this to follow.

Workers Educational Association (WEA) Cornwall are taking the lead on this - with courses at St Ives Library, St Ives Infant School and The Island Centre.

Creative Textiles - with Jo McIntosh - starts on Wednesday 19th April and runs every Wednesday for nine weeks at St Ives Library.

Adult Theatre Workshops - with Miracle Theatre - start on Saturday 22nd April and run every Saturday morning for five weeks at St Ives Infant School.

Papercraft and Printing  - with Jo McIntosh - starts on Tuesday 25th April and runs every Tuesday evening for seven weeks at The Island Centre.

Places on Creative Textiles and Adult Theatre Workshops are free to all.
Places on Papercraft and Printing are free for those receiving means tested benefits and cost £54.00 for others.

Although some places are free - these courses need your support - you must book - you cannot just turn up on the day. If there are not enough bookings they will not run. WEA Cornwall have obtained funding but need enough students to justify running them.

The first is FREE.
WEA have obtained funding for this - so that all can attend at no cost.
