Leach Pottery - Japan Appeal

Leach Pottery - St Ives Cornwall


The Leach Pottery in St Ives have launched an appeal - particularly to help the village of Mashiko in northern Japan, which has been badly hit by the recent earthquake.

The pottery has strong links with Japan - stretching back more than a century.

Shoji Hamada, co-founder of the Leach Pottery in St Ives with Bernard Leach, settled in Mashiko with his family when he returned to Japan from St Ives in 1923. He set up his own pottery there and the village today has over 400 pottery studios and kilns.

In 2008 the people of the village collected more than £40,000 towards the rebuilding of Leach Pottery St Ives.

Guided Tours Of St Ives - Competition

Guided Tours Of St Ives run themed tours every week - led by local guide Valerie Hurry.

No need to book - just turn up - tours start at 11.00 am from The Guildhall. Cost is £5.00 per person.

On Mondays and Fridays "St Ives Then and Now" covers the history of our town.

On Thursdays "St Ives In The Frame" is about art and artists and our rich artistic legacy.

Great fun and a chance to see things that you might not notice on your own. St Ives has quite a few surprises - so go along to find out !

Valerie also runs tours for individuals, couples and groups - these can be tailored individually for you.

Felt Making Workshop - St Ives - Monday 7th March



Beautiful sunny day today and lots to do this weekend. As Spring approaches things are getting busier in St Ives.

On Saturday morning (5th March) there is a Free For All at The Guildhall. Bring along any usable but unwanted items that you have hanging around at home - from 9.00 am. Take away what you need for free - 10.00 am to 12.00 pm.. Organised by:

Also on Saturday  - St Ives Arts Club has a Smock Swap - Clothes Exchange - 10.00 am to 4.00 pm. A low cost and trendy way to refresh your wardrobe. Bring clothes, shoes, bags or jewellery that you are happy to swap. Entry is £3.00 which includes tea, coffee and biscuits. Proceeds to the Sea Wall Repair Fund. On Saturday afternoon St Ives is holding its first ever St Piran's Day Parade. It will start from The Guildhall at 2.00 pm and will wind its way along Tregenna Place, Wharf Road and back along Fore Street to complete the route back at the Guildhall. You can see a preview on:

On Saturday night St Ives Library are celebrating World Book Night from 7.00 pm to 9.00 pm. A number of local authors will be talking about books that they love and giving away free copies:

On Sunday (6th) Tregenna Castle are hosting a Wedding Fair from 10.30 am to 4.00 pm. Visitors can explore the castle’s rooms and grounds as well as sample the wares of various wedding suppliers. Tregenna Castle will also be launching a competition for one lucky couple to win a honeymoon in a luxury apartment in the Algarve. More details are on:

Also on Sunday at Tate St Ives its Super Sunday - a  programme of hands-on creative activities for families to engage, challenge and inspire. Designed for children and adults to enjoy together. It runs from 11.00 am to 4.00 pm, free, no booking needed, drop in anytime. More info on:
