First Strawberries Of Spring

First Strawberries Of Spring - St Ives Cornwall
First Strawberries Of Spring - St Ives Cornwall

I've just enjoyed the first strawberries of the year - lots more to come as they ripen - can't wait !

I've been hard at work in the garden planting peas, french beans, spinach, broccoli, salad leaves, cucumbers, squash, pumpkins, tomatoes and sweetcorn.

I've been included in the programme for 'Secret Gardens Of St Ives' which is on Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th June. So please do come along if you'd like to take a look - just don't expect a "show garden". This is definitely a "working garden" and a work in (permanent) progress.

Also - one idea that I've had today is to set up a website for a local veg / plant swap scheme. Like most gardeners I'll probably end up with a glut of some things later in the year, while other plants don't produce as much as I'd like. Let me know what you think.

Right now I've got loads of Jerusalem Artichoke plants if anybody wants some.

Ayr Field Day 2010

Ayr Field Day
Ayr Field Day

Ayr Field Day 2010 will be on Sunday 4th July from 11.00 am to 4.00 pm.

A great community event - all welcome - with theatre, dance, live music, stalls, food and lots more.

Its organised by The Ayr Field Community Group - a grassroots volunteer organisation that maintains Ayr Field and raises funds so the entire community can have year round use of the field.

A full programme will be published in due course but right now the organisers are asking for help with the event.

Local organisations can apply for a stall. An opportunity to raise funds or spread the word about what you do. Stalls involving games and childrens activities are particularly welcome and you're asked to keep it affordable (say 50p).

There are also a few commercial stall pitches available.

They are also looking for anybody who can provide demonstrations / workshops for children and adults.

Local businesses are asked to support the event if they can - in a number of ways. Cash donations are always welcomed and in return you can be featured as a sponsor on the day. Raffle prizes are needed, also donations of food and drink for the volunteers working on the day. Staff are invited to donate their time to help with stewarding, set up and take down.

Any business offering help will be featured in print material, including 4000 leaflets distributed locally. You will also feature in press releases, the Ayr Field website and announcements on the day.

Cost of sponsorhip varies, between £100 and £50 depending on what you sponsor. For my part - I'll offer one 6 month listing on my OneStIves website to the first business who offers to throw in an extra £50 on top of their standard sponsorhsip.
