Sam and Sally MacCabe |
For the first time, Sally and Sam MacCabe are holding a joint exhibition of their work which they say has been a challenging, but exciting collaboration.
Sally MacCabe has become well established in St Ives as a mixed media artist who is known for her use of a subtle blue, grey and neutral palette of colours. Her textured paintings often feature applied papers and ephemera. These range from large canvases with a grid formation of design, to small six inch studies worked with acrylics on board. Her work extends across various media and she also produces papier-mâché vessels and sculptures, delightful art dolls, individual artist’s books and intriguingly detailed wall hangings.
This is the first time that Sam MacCabe has shown is work. He has produced a body of paintings that are loosely based on the theme of ‘identity’ and so feature striking portraits that are both engaging and disturbing. He uses two quite separate techniques: large, bold and colourful canvases that are spray-painted and stencilled in a very contemporary ‘street art’ style; and small black and white pieces that are intensely detailed and worked with a fine black pen on canvas.
The exhibition runs from Sunday 1st April until Friday 6th April - 10.00 am to 5.00 pm daily - admission is free.
