As ever lots going on in St Ives this week. Here is a small selection of stuff. Full listings are on:

Tonight (9th July) - live music at The Harbour Pool Club - blues rock from Devil's Creek. Starts at 9.00 pm, free admission for members and guests, temporary memberships available for visitors.

Tomorrow night (10th) The Belerion Consort play at St Ives Parish Church - part of their weekly Sunday@8 series of classical concerts. Starts at 8.00 pm - admission £5.00 on the door.

On Monday (11th) Freddy Zapp is back at The Sheaf Of Wheat for a fun Karaoke Night. Starts at 8.30 - free entry. Freddy will be at The Sheaf every Monday and Wednesday night throughout the Summer.

On Tuesday (12th) St Ives Jazz Club are staging Pedal Mania - 'the finest choice of funky grooves'. Doors open at 8.00 pm, music from 9.00 pm. Admission on the door £10.00 / £6.00 (members). More top class modern jazz every Tuesday all year round.

On Wednesday (13th) indulge your creative side at St Ives School Of Painting - with a Life Drawing Class. Starts at 7.00 pm, beginners welcome,  costs £15.00 - no need to book just turn up. The school has a membership scheme with reduced costs for the classes and other exclusive events.

On Thursday (14th) Cafe Frug is at St Ives Arts Club - an eclectic mix of poetry, comedy, prose, music, film and anything else artistic. Doors open at 7.30 pm with performance from 8.00 pm, entry is £4.00 / £3.00 (members).

On Friday (15th) St Ives Raft Race starts at 6.30 pm in the harbour. Free to watch and great fun.

Seagrass Restaurant - to be found down on St Ives Harbour by the slipway - has been voted best restaurant in St Ives (#1 of 64) by independent reviewers on TripAdvisor.

Quite an achievement given that they only opened a few weeks ago in May !

Diners clearly love the place - 95% of those who have posted reviews rate Seagrass as "Excellent".

Well done to owner-managers Scott and Julia Blair and to Professional MasterChef finalist Lee Groves !

St Ives Farmers Market is open today until 2.00 pm - at The Backpackers on The Stennack.

Great local produce - which today includes fresh Cornish fish, bread, cakes and seasonal vegetables.

I've just been down there and took the photo above a few minutes ago.
So get down there before the best items sell out !

St Ives Shark

St Ives Shark - Its Out There Somewhere !

I've been bombarded with emails from various shark lovers and self-appointed marine conservation experts - concerned that St Ives is about to launch an armada of shark hunters -out to catch the St Ives Shark. One of them asking me to "call a halt to this shark-hunt !".

The well regarded and authorative national newspaper The Daily Star states that "Fishermen have booked out hotels in the resort, hoping to follow the feat of the hero cop in the first Jaws movie, played by Roy Scheider, 75, and kill it.".

According to The Star there is a £25,000 bounty on the shark's head.

I'd like to assure you that the shark is almost certainly safe and on its way home back to warmer waters.

If it really was out there - and there really was a £25k price on it - I can assure you that by now St Ives fishermen would have it caught and ready for auction on the harbour.

A couple of nice options if you're looking for somewhere to celebrate Father's Day this Sunday.

Tregenna Castle have a Sunday Lunch Carvery - with the added special ingredient of live jazz from Martin Bowie. Afterwards (or before!) you could enjoy a round of golf, take a stroll around their woodland walk or just chill out in the lounge bar. Lunch from 12.30, music until 3.00. Seagrass Restaurant on St Ives Harbour have a special Fathers Day Menu created by chef Lee Groves - some highly original dishes including Grilled Halloumi With Parmesan Custard, Hake Loin With Samphire and Lime Posset. Only recently opened they are already rated No. 2 out of 62 restaurants in St Ives on TripAdvisor. Lunch served from  12.00 and Dinner from 6.00. Queens Hotel - New Menu and Rooms

The Queens Hotel on High Street has now fully re-opened - with a brand new bar menu and refurbished bedrooms.

The new menu was described by The West Briton as 'high-end grub in a relaxed, friendly setting'. Chef Matt Perry's is aiming to offer 'Pub food at pub prices' using only the best local ingredient. Everything is freshly cooked and prepared on the premises - included bread baked daily and home-made ice-cream.

A major refurbishment of the five bedrooms is now complete - including handpainted furniture, vintage blankets and mirrors. Cornish art and antiques are part of the decor.There are three doubles and two family rooms - So guests for dinner can now sleep over!

Good to see The Queens fully back up and running after a period of closure.
