On Air - A Celebration Of Vintage Radio Entertainment
On Air - BoatHouse Theatre St Ives

A new theatre production - performed by a local cast - is coming to St Ives in May.

On Air - A Celebration Of Vintage Radio Entertainment.

Tuesday 17th - Thursday 19th May 2016 - 7.00 pm.

BoatHouse Theatre, Carnglaze Place, St Ives, Cornwall, TR26 1PX

A celebration of radio drama - including the first ever play written for and aired on radio - in 1924 - set in a coal mine -
A Comedy Of Danger - a one act play by Richard Hughes.

'To my mind, one of the best plays ever broadcast. Here was something that was written for wireless only; the scene was in a coal mine, and was meant to be heard and not seen. If this play had been produced in a legitimate theatre the stage would have been in total darkness; the players and the action would remain unseen. It was, therefore, ideal for broadcasting, and probably not so good for use in a theatre. In fact, I think it gained by being broadcast, as a sense of distance for such a setting was an inducement to the right atmosphere.'
Nigel Playfair - 'Popular Wireless' - 9 March 1929.

Also - The Understudy - a play by Patricia Calder.

Tickets: £7.00
From - Boathouse Theatre -  07985 261 181
